About Making the Ride Happen

As a program of Lutheran Social Services of Wisconsin and Upper Michigan, Making the Ride Happen assists individuals with disabilities and those who are aging, so they can remain active and involved in their community. The organization is a centralized transportation call center for individuals with disabilities and those who are aging in Outagamie, Calumet and Winnebago Counties.

While transportation coordinators specialize in helping clients and their families navigate transportation program and service options, Making the Ride Happen also manages a volunteer driver program. Drivers provide rides using their own vehicles, and transportation is provided to medical appointments, grocery shopping, volunteering, hair salons, banks and pharmacies.

Making The Ride Happen will use the Women Who Care Greater Oshkosh grant to invest in the following initiatives:

  • Increase efforts in the Oshkosh area to recruit volunteer drivers and increase the number of rides they can give to clients, along with education about their program in the community to expand ridership.
  • Acknowledge and recognize volunteer drivers who engage in this effort, focusing on finding ways to have volunteer drivers refer their friends and family.

The next Women Who Care Greater Oshkosh meeting is scheduled for February 2, 2016, at The Waters, 1393 Washington Ave., Oshkosh, WI 54901, and is open to all women in the Oshkosh area. Registration and networking will take place at 5:15 p.m., with the presentation of proposals and selection by members of the organization to receive the evening’s funds from 5:45 to 6:45 p.m. Individuals attending will each contribute $100 for the charity chosen that evening, or a team of two can contribute a total of $100.

Non-profit organizations (501.3c) can submit a proposal to be presented at the next Women Who Care meeting. (Download the Proposal Form) Three organizations are randomly chosen to present proposals at the meeting. A representative of each of the three organizations gives a five-minute presentation of their proposal, and then answers questions from members. Members in attendance then vote for the organization that will receive proceeds from that evenings meeting.
